5 Quick Tips to Manage Your SEO Budget
If you are an SEO you have probably at one point or another either spent too much money in the month so you are broke, or not spent enough to really help your clients get what they are looking for. I know this has happened to me before and because of that I took action to find a solution that would help me to maintain my proper budgets for myself and my clients. I know many SEO’s that are simply making note of their budget on a scrap piece of paper while eating at a local dive, but that just won’t cut it for any major SEO firm. Numbers need to be tracked and it’s vital that you know where those funds went and how much of those funds were dedicated to specific clients.
Therefore, I thought it would be helpful to put together a quick list of 5 things any SEO can do to better manage their budgets.
1. Maintain monthly cash flow statements, income statements, and a balance sheet for your business. Account for each and every transaction for each client on this…kind of like saving your receipts.
2. Make folders in your email were you can stick all your PayPal and Google Checkout receipts for links, articles, etc. so you have a record you can look to at the end of each month.
3. Set up a specific bank account where you deposit the budget for spending each month and then spend it each month. You can use a money management software to track your spending.
4. Create your own envelope budgeting software per say where you track each account on Excel or another flat file program and then reference these when creating your monthly financial reports.

5. Don’t spend your budget on entertainment, personal items, play toys, waist-full ads, or anything else. You have to be specific about your budgets to honor the SEO industry.
Hope these things help. I know they have helped me…but of course their’s much more to the puzzle. Good Luck.
